From November 11th to 14th, 2020, Professor Chang Jiang, Executive Director of the Research Center for Media Convergence and International Communication of Shenzhen University, led a team to visit the China Story Creative Communication Research Institute of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and had many rounds of discussions in academics with members of research institude and reached preliminary intent on future cooperation between the two parties.

At the symposium, Professor Xianhong Chen first extended a warm welcome to Professor Chang Jiang and his entourage, and introduced the development history, organizational structure, existing research team and main focus of the China Story Creative Communication Research Institute.

Professor Xianhong Chen introduced nearly 10 scientific research topics of the Institute in the past three years in "telling Chinese stories", as well as related academic achievements, innovative practices, and advisory opinions. She said that the Story Institute is an open interdisciplinary research institution, and its research members come from the School of Journalism, School of Management, School of Public Administration and School of Foreign Languages. Its central work "Telling Chinese Stories and Creative Communication Competition" is a new media-integrated storytelling platform designed to encourage and support all sectors of society are actively participating in the national narrative network of global communication. This is highly consistent with the research and practical interests of the Center for Media Convergence and International Communication Research of Shenzhen University. We look forward to strengthening cooperation between the two parties in the future and jointly promoting the Theory and practice innovation of“telling Chinese stories”.

Subsequently, Professor Chang Jiang introduced the background, organizational structure, existing research team and future work ideas of the Media Convergence and International Communication Research Center of Shenzhen University. Professor Chang Jiang mentioned that the research center,as a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Shenzhen, took“consolidating global consensus in the era of convergence”as its core development concept at the beginning of its establishment, and was committed to the development of“convergent global communication”paradigm. The research center not only hopes to make achievements in academic research, but also hopes to cooperate with the China Story Creative Communication Research Institute to tell the story of Shenzhen together and make achievements in promoting the development of major national strategies.

He said that the China Story Creative Communication Research Institute has a lofty purpose and has achieved fruitful research results and extensive social influence in the field of telling Chinese stories. The cooperation between the two research institutions is of great significance and he hopes that the two institutions can complement each other,establish a closer cooperative relationship, and jointly promote the development of integrated global communication research and practice.

During the discussion session, the two parties exchanged views on their next work plans, and discussed in detail the specific content and methods of cooperation between the two institutions. The two parties decided to jointly launch the initiative to establish the "Chinese Story Creative Communication Alliance". The alliance brings together more than ten scientific research institutions, mainstream media and well-known companies to jointly create a concept and practice system for the creative dissemination of Chinese stories in the era of global integration, and jointly implement the national strategy of "telling Chinese stories and disseminating Chinese voices" They are looking forward to making more positive and beneficial attempts to jointly open up more possibilities for telling Chinese stories well.

Introduction of the Institude:

China Story Creative Communication Research Institute is jointly established by China Foreign Languages Bureau and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. On June 28, 2019, Du Zhanyuan, Director of the China Foreign Languages Bureau, and Li Yuanyuan, President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, jointly unveiled the institute, and it was formally established on November 13.

The Institute fully integrates and utilizes the government resources, international communication, and the practical advantages of telling Chinese stories of the China Foreign Languages Bureau, as well as the talents, scientific research, and achievements of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in the interdisciplinary fields of journalism, public relations, public management, and foreign translation. Advantage.

At present, the institute is mainly responsible for the national story work review of the "Telling Chinese Stories" creative communication competition, the research on the evaluation index system of China's good stories, the training of Chinese good stories talent team, and the organization, undertaking and review of the Hubei sub-station competition.

In the future, we will focus on the theoretical research, talent training, social service and think tank construction of the China Story Creative Communication Research Institute. We also will actively carry out related research and achievement transformation of "telling Chinese stories and disseminating Chinese voice" and enhance Chinese international discourse power and cultural soft power .

The institute is affiliated to the School of Journalism and Information Communication of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Xu Xiaodong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Yu Yunquan, Dean of the Institute of Contemporary China and the World, jointly served as the chairman of the Institute, and Professor Chen Xianhong as the Dean of the Institute.
