“I received a gift from my school, the newspaper People’s daily on the day I was born,”“I received the newspaper Reference News on the day I was born...”Today, some graduates of the SJIC received a special gift. The school sent a heart-warming gift bag, including the most surprising gift ,the newspaper of the day of theirs’birth, masks and letters. The school gave the gift to nearly 500 students who have graduated in the past five years. Students who received this gift all gave their alma mater thumbs-up.
Select newspapers carefully for the graduates
“2020 is an extraordinary year. Besides medical students, many of our graduates are also fighting against the epidemic. The Spring Festival isaround the corner, and we want to send warmth and encouragement to the alumni through this gift,”said Ming Yuzhu,ViceChair of the SJIC Committee. As early as the end of December 2020, theschoolcame up with the idea of sending warmth to its alumni. After many discussions and changes, thefaculty membersof theschoolfinally decided to send studentstheirbirthdaynewspaper.“We arejournalists, and we have different feelings in delivering newspapers to students. We hope that students can always keep their journalistic ideals and original intentions,”said Ming. In addition, last year, when the freshmen started school,SJICdelivered birthdaynewspaper to the freshmen. At that time, the graduates said they wanted to have one, too.
The first problem with sending newspapers to students istheir personalinformation. Although the school hassomeinformation, some students change jobs after graduation. On the basis of the original information, theschoolmobilizes allfacultiesand students to contact and carry out the information return visit of the graduates. On Jan. 16, after collecting informationofgraduates, theschool’s staffset out to prepare mysterious gifts.
This is the work of the college’s fourcounselors, who first collatedthe students’identity information, sorting it from large to small, sorting out the required dates of the newspapers, and then looking for online channels to purchase the newspapers.“The birth dates of our students in the past five years are quite long, and the span is still very large. Although theschoolhas some newspapers in storage, but the quantity is not enough, so we look for them on the internet,”said Shao Weinan, one of the counselorsatschool. Finding newspapers is not smooth, becausethe number of studentsis so much andthe year is alsoveryold. National day and other special period of newspaper is difficult to find. After two days of shopping, theschoolhas purchased nearly 500pieces ofdaily newspapers.
After the newspaper was sent back to the school, thestaff, who had been on vacation, went back to the school to pack presents for the students. They put each student’s newspaper into a gift bag according to student information, and theselectednewspapers are mainstream media newspapers such asPeople’s daily, Guangming Daily, Reference News, China Youth Daily, etc. , along with masks and letters to students. The work lasted two days, and several students came to help.“When we were packing up, it was very emotional to see the old newspapers, each of which was a record of the times. I remember a student who was born in January 1992, and the newspaper that was sent to him recorded the news reports of the Deng Xiaoping’s southern tour, and the students willalsofeel verytouchedafter receiving this newspaper,”said Shao.
Nearly 500 students have been surprised

We will carry this love and keep going.”In addition to thethumbs-upfrom students, thefacultiesalsofeltverytouched, said Niu Jing, a professoroftheschool.“The students are so moved. The school really cares. It’s a very valuable thing to do.”

During the epidemic, some of them fought on the front line, writing and reportingtouching stories; someexertedtheir professional skills and gave advice on the prevention and control of the epidemic; some sank into communities and streetson duty...“Many of our graduates are veryexcellent, andthe birthday newspaper is to give them warmth and encouragement, expectingthem tomaketheir efforts. The school also hopes that through thisactivitygraduates and alma materwill linkclosely ,”Shao said.
